About PrepYak
Studying for a big exam is a long climb, and most people do it alone. PrepYak finds you someone to do it with.
Why we built it
Anyone who has prepared for UPSC, GATE, NEET, the MCAT or a round of coding interviews knows the pattern: a burst of motivation, a plan, and then weeks of quietly falling behind with nobody noticing. Study-partner threads on forums and group chats do not fix it. They are full of “looking for a partner, GMT+5:30” posts that nobody answers, and the few people who do reply are rarely on your exam, in your timezone or awake when you are.
PrepYak replaces the post with a match. You say what you are preparing for, when you study and how you like to work. We rank the people who fit and show you exactly why. When two people both say yes, they get a private chat and a partner who is expecting them.
How matching works
Every pairing is scored out of 100 on five things, and the breakdown is shown on every profile:
- Same subjects. The exams and topics you both selected. This matters most.
- Timezone. How far apart your clocks are.
- Study hours that overlap. The actual hours you both said you study, compared across timezones.
- Study style. Pomodoro sprints, deep focus, discussion, check-ins, side-by-side sessions or mock tests.
- Hours a week. How much time you each plan to put in.
There is no feed to scroll and nothing to swipe. You send a request, they accept, and the two of you take it from there.
What we believe
- Mutual opt-in. Nobody can message you until you have accepted their request.
- Safety is a feature. Block and report are one tap away on every profile and in every chat.
- Your data stays yours. We do not sell it, we do not show ads, and you can delete your account from inside the app at any time. Read the privacy policy.
- Free for students. PrepYak is free to use while you prepare.
